Keith Baumann has been a professional musician and teacher for over 35 years. After acquiring his first banjo in 1971, he began studying with banjo master Tony Trishcka. He soon joined Heartland, which featured among its band members Jim Nunally, Allison Brown and Rob Ickes. In 1991 Keith relocated to Chicago and began touring nationally with the highly acclaimed Special Consensus bluegrass band, performing at major festivals, concert venues throughout the United States.

Keith currently makes his living as a full-time performer, bandleader, educator and writer. Performing on banjo, mandolin, guitar and resophonic guitar, Keith plays everything from bluegrass to big band jazz and has worked with numerous great artists such as Vassar Clements, Peter Rowan, Laurie Lewis and Johnny Frigo. He writes regularly for Down Beat jazz magazine and has had articles published in both Guitar Player and Flatpicking Guitar magazine.
